By reimagining the design of a grinder, we were able to pack in some pretty impressive features to elevate your morning routine. With 64mm professional-grade flat burrs, 31 grind settings, and Single Dose Loading for maximum bean freshness, you can now bring the café experience into your kitchen at a fraction of the price. Read on for the full story or click “Back this project” if you’ve seen enough already. It’s not a conspiracy. It’s just good coffee.

Professional-Grade 64mm Flat Burrs
Massive café-sized stainless steel flat burrs reduce grind time and heat generation while increasing grind particle consistency. At 64mm, these sharp babies are the largest flat burrs ever put into a home grinder at this price point.

Smart Speed PID MotorUsing sensors to create RPM stability, Ode’s direct-drive motor with PID feedback control exposes every bean to the same forces and speed to improve grind quality and produce even particle distribution. A PID controller (proportional integral derivative) is only common in specialized café grinders costing upwards of $2,700 but has never been engineered in a home grinder. Without PID feedback control, competitor grinders rev up and slow down due to inconsistent motor speeds. You know when your grinder makes a totally different high-pitched sound as it finishes grinding? That’s because it’s spinning faster and faster pulverizing the last few beans into dust. This leads to non-uniform grinds that affect your final brew— like when you chop vegetables inconsistently and they cook unevenly.

Easy Grind AdjustmentBuilt to dominate brewed coffee, Ode’s sleek cast metal dial takes you from Prismo to cold brew with 11 settings and 31 steps in between. You know exactly what you’re getting, and you get exactly what you want. Why did we leave espresso out of the equation? We believe home grinders miss the mark when trying to accommodate a wide range of grinds. Espresso deserves calibrated burrs and a wide range of grind settings to really dial in your shot. You just can’t do that with a home grinder also calibrated for brewed coffee.

Does my grinder really affect flavor?
As with most conspiracies, the devil is in the details. Ode Brew Grinder offers a stacked variety of carefully engineered features to make your grinding experience at home quicker, cleaner, quieter, and overall, more enjoyable.
Single Dose Loading
We chopped off the space-hogging hopper to limit your beans’ exposure to staleness-inducing oxygen. At Fellow, we’re fanatics about keeping beans fresh. We even created a vacuum canister specifically for storing coffee! For that reason, we’re big believers in not storing your coffee in a hopper. Unless you use all of the coffee in your hopper in one day, your beans become vulnerable to oxygen and sunlight, which expedites the staling process of coffee by up to 2x.

Ode can hold up to 80 grams of coffee in the load chute for larger brews. That’s big enough for four servings of coffee—it’s your decision if you share with friends or drink the full batch yourself!
Reduced Grind Noise
No more waking up your roommate...or Farmer Clyde. When we removed the sound-amplifying gramophone-shaped hopper, used high-quality build materials, and ditched the noisy gearbox for a direct-drive motor, grind noise was overall reduced from the average home grinder. Plus, this baby grinds so fast, your roommates won’t even have a chance to stir before it’s done
Auto Stop
You know that awful high-pitched revving noise after the grinder is out of beans, but your hands are tied up buttering toast? Well, Ode monitors the load on the motor to know exactly when the last bean has been ground and automatically shuts itself off. No more buttery fingers lunging toward the off switch!
Easy clean up is important when you’re trying to get out the door in the morning to catch a bus...or catch a glimpse of Bigfoot. Grinding coffee creates a ton of static and flaky coffee residue called chaff. We specifically designed several features to help mitigate mess and keep your brewing area tidy.
Magnetically Aligned Catch
Ode’s sleek catch snaps into place with magnets to ensure grinds fall neatly from the burrs into the catch every time rather than spewing onto the counter.
And because we care about the little things, we also focused on the inside of the catch. No scale? Ratio aid dots measure 20 grams, 40 grams, 60 grams, or 80 grams of beans. Easy pour fins provide a smooth transition of the grinds into your coffee brewer.
Electrically Grounded Chute and Grinds Chambers
See your countertop again! Friction from grinding causes static which results in chaff and grinds getting stuck to...well...everything. Ode’s chute and grinds chamber are electrically grounded to help reduce static and decrease mess.
Grinds Knocker
A high-force spring knocks any extra grinds and chaff into the catch for less mess. This is the first time a knocker has been engineered specifically for the home market. Plus—and you’ll have to test this for yourself—it’s pretty dang satisfying to hit the knocker as the last step in the grinding process.
